Lodge United Taranaki No. 456
|
Our History The Consecration and dedication of Lodge United Taranaki No 456 was held on March 17th 1993. It is an amalgamation of Lodge Ngamotu - New Plymouth No 48 and Lodge Serenity no. 347. Lodge Ngamotu No. 48 was one of the early Lodges in Taranaki, being consecrated and dedicated on May 23rd 1884. Dwindling membership made it desirable to combine with Lodge New Plymouth No. 338 on November 2nd 1985. Lodge Serenity No. 347 was consecrated and dedicated on the 23 August 1949 and again it was found that diminishing membership resulted in the formation of Lodge United Taranaki. This Lodge is one of the success stories in Freemasonry in general and Taranaki Freemasonry in particular. Although we do not have the strength of numbers evidenced some years back, we are blessed with a continuous stream of both new Masons and joining members from Lodges that are not so successful. A solid financial foundation enables us to be one of the more benevolent Lodges, having supported many established charities and in particular the Taranaki Helicopter Trust to whom we have supplied quite a bit of radio and communication gear. We enjoy excellent support from the community and expect to be a force in both the community and Freemasonry for the foreseeable future.
